photo of the day (labor day weekend celebration – part deux)
A beautiful day turned into a beautiful afternoon and we loaded up the car with kids, towels, snacks and beverages and headed out to Sprite Island to spend the evening with our dear friends, Stef and Jeff. If I had to leave the barn, I couldn’t think of a better place to go to than Sprite Island. Stef and Jeff are always so generous with their invitations to join them on the island and we love spending time with them there.
Once we got off the boat and set our stuff down by our table, the kids immediately took off and headed for the beach. Clare and Bing went in one direction . . .
. . .Nick, Molly and Jessie went in another.
Meantime, we grownups sat and talked and opened a bottle of wine or two and whiled away the hours as the sun got lower in the sky.
We listened to the music of The Barefoot Truth (and if you haven’t heard of them yet, check out their website, find them on Facebook, download their music on iTunes — they are good.)
We ate barbecue; we walked around the Island and smelled the brackish water of the sound. We looked for shells on the beach and had another glass of wine.
We enjoyed each other’s company. We danced and sang.
And then tired, full and happy, we gathered our things and boarded the launch back to the mainland and headed home. Not a bad way to spend an end of summer day, if you ask me.
