photo of the day (Sunday afternoon edition)
After some lazing around and some work out in the garden, Clare and I headed out for her vaulting class. Very warm day (ok, it was hot and humid) and the most comfortable place was in the barn, out of the sun and in the cross breeze of the 2 large open doors. It was a busy place, as I’m discovering that barns in the summer can be. There was much activity with lots of kids, moms, riders, horses and dogs.
After a quick run to warm-up, the vaulting girls settled onto the barn floor to do a bit of stretching. That peeked the curiosity of Merrylegs the pony, who had been peeking out of her stall and keeping a close eye on the comings and goings inside the barn. Just what is everyone up to? Anyone got some treats for me?
The girls headed into the indoor arena for the riding portion of their class and the following is what happened. Clare got on for her turn to ride and went from this:
I know it was the heat plus the fact that she hasn’t been on a horse in almost 3 weeks. She just wasn’t happy about going any faster than a walk, but the instructor had her trot and canter for a bit and that resulted in the change of expression above. The rest of the lesson went just fine and ice cream at the Creamery afterwards helped a bit. Oh well. We all have our good days and bad days so I’m not worried.
